Introduction to product ownership:

Learn the ways of thinking, tools and frameworks that will help deliver customer and business value via the development of products. You will be introduced to the product discipline and the concept of Product Ownership as a distinct value-focused craft that crosses many initiatives and applies to many roles. This will enable you to find value, test and measure it, communicate the value throughout the business and deliver it via product development. You will also understand the critical role (and not job title) that Product Owners play within Agile teams.

  • Product related roles (Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst) in agile teams or organisations.
  • Anyone looking to understand and thrive in the role of a Product Owner.
  • Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters and other process+culture related roles willing to support Product related roles in their teams or organisations.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the origin, concept and breadth of Product Ownership across teams and organisations. Acknowledge the flexible nature of the potential Product Ownership roles you might take and its relation to the Agile values and principles.
  • Be challenged by the diverse thinking skills needed for an effective Product Ownership and the behaviours associated with them.
  • Understand the critical leadership and decision-making nature of Product Ownership and how to involve and influence stakeholders around you to focus on value.
  • Learn how to determine and quantify value to adapt the scope around it – both within and across initiatives. Exercise the projection of value over time to define product roadmaps and alignment to organisational strategy.
  • Put techniques in practice to emerge scope from a customer-centric perspective. Learn how to slice scope into deliverable batches and work incrementally while maintaining quality. Understand how to manage risks and involve stakeholders and the organisation in the process.
  • Apply the concepts of “Building to Learn” and “Building to Earn”, while understanding how to continuously capture customer feedback. Exercise techniques for backlog management, prioritisation and scope creep prevention.
